Rotator Cuff Tendonitis Treatment:
Rotator Cuff Tendinitis Can Be Treated!
Rotator Cuff Tendinitis is a painful condition
that involves the tendons that form a cuff around the top of the humerus.
When the tendons and surrounding tissue become inflamed as a result of
repetitive motion, painful
tendinitis may develop.
Rotator Cuff Tendinitis is often due to
consistent overhead motion of the arm, such as throwing (often associated
with baseball pitching), painting, swimming, or racquet sports. In rarer
cases, a rotator cuff tear can result during heavy lifting or when bracing
against a fall.
Rotator Cuff Symptoms
Rotator cuff tendonitis may be identified
and diagnosed
by a doctor due to a gradual ache in upper area of the dominant arm. If
the tendonitis worsens or develops into a tear, the pain may increase
at night when lying on the affected area. As the pain increases, the arm
and shoulder weaken and cause difficulty in moving the arm. Eventually,
the arm may become impossible to lift above the shoulder area.
In addition to conventional treatments such
as rest and ice, there are several exercises that can be used in rotator
cuff tendinitis treatment to strengthen the shoulder muscles. First,
standing upright, clasp your hands behind your back. Keeping the arms
straight, slowly lift the arms upward and hold for 10-15 seconds. Repeat
3 to 4 times.
Second, attach an oversized rubber band
or bungee cord to a fixed spot or wall at shoulder height. Standing with
your back to the wall with the cord on your right, hold the loose end
of the cord, point the arm straight up then slowly straight out in front
of the body. Hold for 15-20 seconds, repeat 5-6 times. Strengthening exercises
like these are an excellent form of rotator cuff tendonitis treatment.
